When designing print patterns for PO-EM, hand-dyeing, block-printing, and color work together in a beautiful fusion. I love pushing the boundaries of these traditional processes. In my quest to create an all-over color print, I designed this unique horse pattern using nine individual wood blocks that fit together to create a larger scope repeat.
Our artisan workshop gave the initial green light, but once we started working through the manual block-printing process, it quickly became a time-consuming challenge for the team. They gently suggested we shouldn't pursue this particular pattern, and I agreed. As a result, it’s been out of rotation for the last few years.
